My Favourite Vanlife YouTubers

The Indie Projects

Theo and Bee (and of course their cat Gingey) are hardcore vanlifers who have previously owned a canalboat in the UK and now have parked their van on their land in Portugal and are doing up their old stone barn – particularly watch their Nordic series.
Kombi Life

Ben and Leah met on Ben’s epic journey cost sharing his way from South America to Alaska – there is probably a week of good old youthful adventures to be seen in that series. Since they gave the kombi away in a competition at the end of that journey, they have since done up the ultimate Kombi to drive around the world – only to be hit by Coronavirus, causing all sorts of drama getting out of Africa.

The Nomadic Movement

Jordan and Kaylee documented Jordan’s ascent from being a corporate drone to vanlife, with some really neat ideas (like cooking for the homeless and a candle revenue stream using discarded bottles they found at their campsites) – they have since put their converted school on blocks and are building a micro house off grid on their property in Panama
DIY Solar Power with Will Prowse
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSCRVmBT1YyuAlCA8c9FJRA
Will started out in a van after being homeless, and has since built a hugely successful channel on all things solar – so successful in fact, he has now bought and paid for his own house.
Tim and Fin
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4RjMCWka4N2qGRLz6nbJUA
Tim and Fin have done travel vlogging, including some epic motorcycle trips, but have reverted to their enormous RV during the pandemic. A great example of being very savvy business people, they created their own brand of travel accessories to fund their travels.

David is more well known with his UK Canal Cruising channel after having sold up and quit his job in broadcasting, but he has also converted a small van for extending his reach beyond the canals.

Kara and Nate
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4ijq8Cg-8zQKx8OH12dUSw
Like Tim and Fin, Kara and Nate started Youtube life as travel bloggers aiming (and succeeding) to visit one hundred countries before Nate turned thirty. The pandemic converted them to vanlife around the US, and their antics as they learn the van life are highly entertaining (as was their 700-odd travel videos)
From Rust to Roadtrip

These guys work to travel, and showcase the (cheaper) former eastern block countries with their vanlife, with a particular penchant for finding hot springs. It is interesting that more vanlife’s don’t head east (that I have seen)
Element Van Life

Nate started vlogging 4-years ago traveling in his converted Honda Element around the US, but has since upgraded both his transport and his solo existence.
24 Hour Travellers

A Malaysian couple with lots of van tours from the Malaysian perspective.
Max and Lee

Sadly they are not together anymore, but made for good vanlife viewing when they were – and still
Eamonn and Bec
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4laAHbk8VSgmvB47tsd2XQ
Very personable Canadians Eamonn and Bec are another example of enterprising travellers, creating a chai tea business. The pandemic meant abandoning their van in Morocco to go back to Canada …to build another van.
Adventure YouTubers not about van life.
Alastair Humphries

The creator of Microadventures – small, achievable and time-efficient adventures anyone can do.
Free Range Sailing
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbU2ulPD3rJ4OZCNH7-gjjQ
Troy and Pascal are two very self-sufficient Australians, demonstrated by their sailing a 30 foot sailboat around Australia, gathering food from the ocean, enabling them to live remotely for long periods. Particularly interesting is their time sailing the remote waters of West Australia’s Kimberley region.
Life in a Nutshell
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0Hwu6CRsq4zfnSXspXe6jg
We first meet Magnus and Wendy walking along a canal tow path announcing to camera that they have bought a canalboat (called Nutshell), and moved from their farm in Australia to live their dream of boating around the canal system created by and for the Industrial Revolution. The video was to show friends and family at home. They are very personable, and with their rule of, “If we see a pub and it is after 11am, we have to stop” we got to see their passion for brewing – coining the catchphrase, “Not Bad.” Little did we know of Magnus’ ability to pull anything apart and fix it, or Wendy’s ability to edit videos into stories. We had to wait until the transition of the channel when they announced suddenly that they were selling the canalboat, and buying a cruising yacht (which they subsequently called Nutshell) in Panama. Over 200 episodes and three years we have seen them renovate their beautiful 43-foot boat and sail it across the Pacific back to their farm in Queensland Australia – and seen Magnus pull apart and fix everything, from the auto helm to the gearbox. A MUST SEE is their footage of the tiny Minerva Reef (Ep#165) episode in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. https://youtu.be/D8HEigbWv2Y
